Did anyone else see Commissioner Joseph take credit for slowing the growth in St Johns County? I watched the replay twice with my jaw on the floor and, in fact, she did. I guess humility isn’t in her playbook.
It is offensive that Commissioner Joseph’s childish behavior continues in her making it plain to every County constituent that you can either be “for her” or “against her.” That is not working for the County, it is working for a personal agenda.
In case you missed it, here’s what happened…
Commissioner Whitehurst congratulated those in the County for a new census report that shows that the growth in the County has slowed from 2022 to 2024.
Commissioner Joseph took credit for the slowed growth. She did condescend to acknowledge the “new commissioners” that support her.
Verbatim transcript from Commissioner Joseph: ON THE SLOW THE GROWTH,NOTICE THE TIMING OF IT. I GOT ON THE BOARD AND WE STARTED SAYING NO TO A LOT OF THE GROWTH. IT WAS A JOINT EFFORT OF I THINK EVERYBODY WORRIED ABOUT APPROVING MORE THINGS AND THE INFRASTRUCTURE IS BEHIND AND NEEDS TO CATCH UP. I THINK EVERYBODY WHO SITS IN TRAFFIC KNOWS THAT IS THE CASE. I AM GLAD WE HAVE THE NEW COMMISSIONERS HERE TO SUPPORT ME
An elected official with a personal agenda, without regard for the whole of their constituents should be concerning to everyone.
But, as Commissioner Joseph herself said in November of 2023, there is an election coming up in November 2026.
The next 20 months or so before the 2026 Commissioner election gives every resident a chance to look not just at what the candidates say, but what they do to support all of the constituents of St. Johns County, not just those that agree with them.
Does St Johns County really need a Commissioner who takes credit rather than sharing both the vision and the outcome with the entire County?
