Three different people sent me a link to a court filing. Apparently, Mr. James Higbee is suing Ms. Nicole Crosby for slander/ libel/defamation. You can read the filing and track the docket here: https://trellis.law/case/12109/ca24-0665/higbee-james-david-vs-crosby-nicole-cranberg
What is even more worrisome is that, according to the docket, this lawsuit was served to Ms. Crosby on May 24, 2024, and she is STILL going at it. On May 30, she posted on her Fight for St Johns County Facebook page – the same page noted in the defamation filing – another slanderous accusation about Commissioner Arnold. (I’d post the link, but she blocked me – someone sent the post to me earlier this morning)
Don’t you learn?
Ms. Crosby’s post about Mr. Higbee accused him of being a convicted felon, and she posted the charge, conveniently leaving out that the charge was a misdemeanor, not a felony. Rumor has it that this information impacted Mr. Higbee’s employment.
There is something very wrong with anyone who is so hungry for power that they are willing to trash other people again and again.
I wonder if Ms. Crosby ever thinks about the harm that she is doing?
Tactics of Inference and Omission
Through her tactics of inference and omission – inferring intent around statements of fact while omitting the context of the statement (or picture, in the case of Mr. Higbee’s misdemeanor) – she has created a cult of followers who cling to the “world that was,” and don’t realize we will never go back there.
This group has put their faith in an individual who knows (or should know) better about what it takes to run a county but continues to push a false narrative – that by electing commissioners who pledge to vote “no” together as a bloc – they can slow development until the infrastructure catches up.
- She has convinced a group of her followers that Commissioners Dean, Whitehurst and Alaimo are in the pocket of developers and are told what decisions to make to earn developer funding for their campaign. Never mind that these are three very knowledgeable, intelligent, independent individuals who have committed their time and energy to a position of service. Never mind that they follow the rules of order for County actions. Nicole’s fantasy version speaks to those who are angry about the world changing.
- She has slammed Commissioner Arnold for everything from her academic record to her family’s association with the Hutson family. Now she states that the only reason Arnold voted “no” for Fort Mose funding is because it was proposed by Commissioner Joseph whom she says Arnold “detests.” She’s accusing Arnold of schoolgirl jealousy, when Joseph, in best schoolgirl form, accused Arnold of never saying hi to her and allowing her dog to poop on the County admin floor. In public. On the dais. Ye gods.
- She has positioned my head on both bulldozer and a cheerleader graphics, calling me a “commissioner lover” because I disagree with the nasty tactics she is using against elected officials. I think she called me some worse things and I wish I could post some of those, but again, she blocked me so I no longer have access.
- And she probably didn’t even realize that someone might challenge her in a court of law for defamation. Oops.
I feel sorry for those in her cult that she is leading astray. And I feel sorry for our County if her quest to have a majority of Crosby-ites on the Board of Commissioners, and herself in the County Administrator role, (okay, yes I am making an inference here) comes to pass.
If this behavior is any indication of how the County would be run, we are in trouble.
